do more in 2016 - Avery Huia

helloooo!!

merry christmas and a happy new year everyone! thank you all for such a great year in 2015, and let's bring on this year! today I thought that I would share with you five things that I am going to try and do more of in 2016. these things are mostly off electronics, as I find that i seen lots of time on them when I could be doing these next things!

I hope this gives you some inspiration for the new year, and if you are ever bored or can't decide what to do, here are a few ideas!

+ do more colouring in.
I have two colouring in books, and the one I am currently working on is Sami Sparrow's Emporium of Colour and Delight. I love this one because its designs and patterns are in the middle of the page and there is white space around the image, and I like this better than full page ones. This one also has quotes in a few of the drawings, and you can also tear out pages that you want to give to someone, or frame.

I find colouring in really relaxing and something fun to do in my spare time. I am going to try doing one page a week, and I am quite a busy person, so I am going to try and do the same drawing, but by bit multiple times throughout the week!

+ be creative
I am not very good at art, at all, and this year I was to try and practice my skills, especially with watercolours and typography. I have recently got some equipment that I hope will really help my blog, and come out with beautiful quotes, printables and pictures for you, so get excited for that!

I love being creative, and I find so many inspiring pictures, especially on pinterest, and I want to start making more DIY posts, and doing more designing projects! I am aiming to do at least two creative things a week, like a watercolour painting, or some hand lettering. The images in this post are done by me! I am new to this technique but I hope you like it, you will be seeing a lot more in the near future!

+ save money
this is something I really need to work on. I am doing quite a bit of travelling this year, and I need to save up for some serious shopping! I usually waste my money when I am shopping to buy something that I already want, and some sneaky items that I don't plan end up in my shopping bag!

I am also trying to save money on the little things, and save up for some bigger things on my wishlist, (which is endlessly growing). I am doing this by simply resisting impulse buys, and putting my money away, and thinking about what I am saving for!

I absolutely love reading, but I find it hard to make time for it, and to come across books that I find interesting. I am trying to read more physical books, rather than on the internet too; I get more satisfaction from it.

I am also trying to read more blogs, so if you have one, please comment the address down below!

+ don't be afraid/don't think 'what if'
I am not very good at this and it always takes me a long time to do something that I am scared of like jumping of a wharf or adventurous things like that, and this year I am going to try and do things that I am afraid of doing and going out of my comfort zone!

I did trampolining lessons this year, and I was afraid of learning new tricks incase I got hurt or didn't do it properly, and after talking myself into it, I learnt so many things that I never thought I could do!

I hope this gave you some ideas for resolutions, or things that you can change/do this year! I am going to try really hard to make all of these things work out, and I hope you do too! I hope you al have a great year!

5 Ways to Stay Organised for School - Avery Huia

Monday, 19 October 2015

helloooo!

In New Zealand, as we are heading into Term 4, where most tests and exams are held, we need to stay organised, and I have come up with 5 ways of how to do that! I am not going into any major exams at the moment, as I am only year 9, but we do have a lot of end of topic tests and end of year tests.

1 - Something that I find really helpful is a planner/diary. This is really good because you can see al of your notes, upcoming tests and assignments all in one place. It is super helpful and you can decorate them to be really cute and it helps to motivate you!

2 - Use flashcards when revising for tests. I have recently got a pack of ones that you write on yourself and they are so helpful when revising for tests because it is an easy and portable way to test yourself on the go.

3 - When taking notes in class, make sure to keep them bright and colourful, and even colour coded! It is so much easier to read when they are bold and the key words

really pop and stick in your head when studying. Colour coding really helps you to know where the important notes and words are.

4 - Make to do lists. These are super helpful so you know what you have to do, how urgent they are and it makes it really bold and it isn’t hard to forget what you need to do.

5 - Tidy up your study area. It is really important to have a clean study area where you can see all of your notes and it is not clogged up with unnecessary items and other schoolwork. It helps me to focus a lot more when my workspace is tidy and organised.

I hope you enjoyed this! I find all of these tips really helpful when I am preparing for tests or studying. Good Luck for any upcoming exams, you can do it!

summer bucket list - avery huia

Monday, 14 September 2015

hellooo!!

in new zealand we are just coming out of winter and getting ready for spring and soon summer! all of my friends and I are so excited for summer, and we are all planning some really fun things to do, and I thought that it would be really cool to share with you my summer bucket list! I have been on pinterest, and found some really cool ideas, and I have tried to keep them realistic, but if you like this type of post, I might do a bucket list for my whole life.

(left to right)

+ have a huge water balloon fight - this is so fun to do with friends, and when I think of this I imagine  huge buckets fill of balloons and then running around in coloured teams with friends on the golf course or a beach.

+ swim with dolphins - the place where I stay (Omaha), is right on the beach, and often when we are biking around, we see dolphins in the water, and I really want to swim with them!

+ go paddle boarding - this is so fun! I tried it last year and it was so cool and really challenging, but I loved it so much and want to do it again this year in the ocean, as last time it was in the estuary.

+ eat healthier - I tend to eat pretty healthy, but I love healthy food so much and I want to have as much of it as I can because it is so good for you!

+ cliff jump - this is a risk that I want to take, and it looks so fun and the pictures would be amazing! I love jumping off the wharf and this is the next step up.

+ learn how to surf - I can't surf, and it looks so fun and is a really cool way to exercise. Lots of my friends can, and I would really like to learn.

+ jump off a waterfall - this looks so fun, and the photos would be amazing! It would be so cool to splash around in a waterfall and then jump off into a really pretty sort of grotto.

+ sleep under the stars - in Omaha, the skies are really clear and it would looks so pretty and magical lying down on the beach or in a backyard looking up at them.

+ take a risk - I want to take a risk during this summer, and do something I wouldn't do normally, instead of regretting it later. Something like jumping off a cliff, that will make a memory and give me something to remember!

I am so excited for this summer, and I really hope it is going to be a good one! At the end of summer I will update you and keep track of the things that I have completed and when. I hope you all have/have had a good summer! love from avery huia x
