Hawaii Photography - Avery Huia

Sunday, 24 July 2016

Alohaaaaaaaaa!

Over the last two weeks, I have been in Hawaii, and I have a photography post for you all! It was so pretty there, and there were so many good photo opportunities. I have some GoPro photos that I have taken as well, I hope you enjoy!

We stayed in Waikiki, so I've got photos from Waikiki Beach, Honolulu and some from the coast of O'ahu from our drive up to North Shore of the island. Hawaii was amazing and one of my favourite places ever!

My photos are mostly taken on my phone (iPhone 6), and there are a few from my GoPro, as mentioned before. The effects that I have used on them is A6, with the saturation up 2 or 3, on VSCO Cam. Enjoy!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, I had such a good time in Hawaii and I will hopefully return in the future!

P.S. I am SO sorry for my absence recently, I have been unbelievably busy with school and dance and I have had absolutely no time on my hands recently, but now I am finished with a few things, I have a LOT more time for blogging. You will definitely be seeing a lot more of me on here & Instagram, I have lots of ideas inside my head and I can't wait to get them onto the blog! I've missed blogging so much and I am so happy that I have now got more time to do it!

South Island Adventure - Avery Huia

Saturday, 3 October 2015

hellooo!

if you follow my instagram, (@averyhuiasblog ;) ) you would know that during the past week, I have been travelling the South Island of New Zealand! I had such an amazing trip, and I took lots of photos of the incredible places, and I am going to share them with you in a photography post.

My mum and I flew down to Wellington, which is a the bottom of the North Island, to go and watch the World Of Wearable Arts show. We stayed there for one night and then flew down to Christchurch to meet my brother and my dad, and to pick up our camper van. We stayed in Christchurch for 2 nights, and then drove down to Lake Tekapo for one night, before driving down to Alexandra, to stay for one night. After Alexandra, we drove to Queenstown and stayed there for two nights. You can see our full journey on the map below!

I loved this trip so much, and it was so so so much fun! Every place we went to was amazing, and it was such an amazing experience! I loved Queenstown especially because of the attractions, like the Luge and Skyline/Gondola, and also the Shooter Jet boat ride! I hope you enjoyed this post, as it was kind of different to what I usually do.

diy plants are friends wooden sign - avery huia

Sunday, 6 September 2015

hellooo!

a few days ago, I saw a really cool diy that I wanted to make and share with you! it is a plants are friends wooden sign and it is a room decor piece and I love the way that it looks! 'plants are friends' photos, signs and shirts with it on are all over tumblr, and I thought that it looked really cool and would be fun to try out!

you will need -
+ 30cm wooden plank
+ white paint
+ black paint or
+ black vivid
+ 1 thin brush (for black paint) and 1 thick brush (white paint)
+ pencil
+ wire
+ hot glue gun/pva glue

first, paint the wooden plant white, and leave to dry for around an hour. once it is dry, lightly trace the words 'plants are friends' and draw out the cactus' or plants that you would like to have as well; I'd recommend finding a picture from tumblr with a layout that you like. once you are finished, draw over with a black vivid or sharpie or go over with paint if you want. turn it over, place the wire in a semi circle from the back of the board and over, to create a handle/hook, and hot glue the wire to the board when you are happy with the length/ size. leave the hot glue for about five minutes, and then hang from a nail or hook on your desired wall.

this is a really easy diy, and it looks really cool; I am so happy with how it turned out, it suits my room perfectly, and you can colour in the pots or plants to make it suit your room or style. I hope you all try out this, and if you do, please send me photos on instagram or post using the hashtag #averyhuiasdiy , I'd really love to see them!

Flight Carry On Essentials - Avery Huia

Saturday, 23 May 2015

hellooo!

as you may have noticed, i haven't been posting in the last couple of weeks, and that is because i have been in australia! i went over for my grandma's 80th, and i had a really fun time, and saw some really cool things and picked up a few pieces which will be in a future post!

here are a few things that i think are essential and will help you get through a flight; this was only a 4 hour flight, so not too long, and there are a few differences to a longer haul flight, but i think these items are important no matter how long the flight is.

in terms of body care, i have collected a hand cream, hand sanitiser, mascara, concealer, tinted lip balm and a regular lip balm. if you don't want to wear makeup, then you can take it out, but if you want just a little on, then i think this will be all you'll need. with body care, from experience, my hands get a bit dry on planes, and also, you never know who or what has touched the plane before you, and you want to stay on the safe side of that! i also find that my lips get quite dry, and this eos is sweet mint, so it will add some freshness to your breath as well keeping them moisturised.

for clothing, i would suggest jeans and a comfy t shirt, but i think an essential is some sort of cardigan. i would recommend a cardigan or zip up over a pull over because i think that they are far easier to put on and off, and an oversized one like this can double as a blanket or pillow.

i hope you enjoyed!

p.s: i will be trying to post twice a week from now on :) xxx
