Monday, 23 May 2016

hellooooooo!

I hope you are always having a good day! today I have a post for you about one of my favourite outfits at the moment.

I am SO excited for winter, it is my favourite season ever, and one of the main reasons why is because of the fashion! I love the colours, styles and pieces in winter, and it makes me so happy, layering and being all warm!

The outfit that I have for you today is one that I really like wearing, and is perfect for winter, when it is cold or raining or windy.

When I was shooting this, it started to rain, so we got an umbrella and I really love the way that it turned out, I think it looks really cool and you will definitely be seeing more of this!

+ jumper = topshop
+ jacket = just jeans
+ jeans = one teaspoon
+ shoes = adidas
+ umbrella = blunt
+ sunglasses = cotton on

I hope you all like this outfit, it is one that I will definitely be getting lots of wear out of this winter!

Have a lovely week! love from avery huia x

Happiness @ Kikki. K - Avery Huia

Friday, 22 April 2016

helloooooo!

I hope you are all enjoying your day! Today's post is going to be about a Happiness Workshop that my friend and I attended at Kikki. K a few nights ago! We found out about it through the diary lovers club that they have if you own one of their diaries, and we were really excited to go!

Kikki. K do lots of amazing workshops that cover a range of topics, like Happiness, Planning and DIY, to name a few! I really enjoyed going to it, and I will definitely be doing another one!

About 8 girls attended, and everyone received a Happiness Journal and a pen, which was part of the cost of the workshop. We worked through most pages in the journal, made lists and came up with ways that we could increase our happiness levels in our everyday lives!

We talked about things that make us happy, as well as unhappy, and came up with ways that you can avoid being unhappy, and things to make you even happier. We had a really lovely host, and she showed us ways that she expresses her happiness, and things that she does to make her happy, using other books from the store, or making gorgeous mood boards and memory boards.

The next day, my friend and I made a moodboard of our own in a page inside the journal, (photo below) and it was so much fun, and just looking at it makes me feel so happy. We learnt that happiness wasn't just a feeling, but a state, which made you feel like you were flourishing and growing constantly. There were some really great quotes and facts about happiness as well, one that stuck out to me was 'You can never have too much happy". Quotes like this are dotted all throughout the journal, and are all so cute!

After the workshop was over, we received a 10% off discount, and because I am a student, I got a further 10% off, so I had to go for it! The store is styled so beautifully, it is hard not to stay in there for hours, and even harder to decide what to buy, there are so many cute things!

I ended up buying a set of 12 pens, which we used to write with and I loved, some decoration tape with pretty clouds on it, and a book that I'm really excited about, which is called 'Go offline, be mindful' and I can't wait to use it; it has 135 activities that are all offline, and comes with a 30 day offline challenge, which I will start in May!

    (my happiness moodboard)

I had such a good time, they made it a really good experience, and I took a lot away from it! I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend it!

lots of love, avery huia x

The Leibster Award - Avery Huia

Saturday, 9 April 2016

hello everyone, oh how I've missed blogging! I have lots of posts planned, and I can't wait to get them up for you! I have had writer's block over the last few weeks, but now I have my inspiration back yay!
I was nominated for the Leibster Award by Nabeela/Miss Artsy Crafty, definitely go and check her blog out, it's amazing! The award has been made to connect other bloggers, and is given to one by another. I think that it is a really cool award and I am so glad that I have been nominated!

If you are nominated, you need to
+ thank the person who nominated you, and link to their blog
+ copy and paste the Leibster Award image above, and put it in your own post
+ nominate 10 new bloggers
+ answer the 10 questions that the person who nominated you asked
+ create 10 new questions to ask the people you nominate
+ notify all of the people who you nominated by commenting on their blog, or through social media!

Nabeela's Questions

1 - Why did you start a blog/
I started this blog about a year and a half ago, and I remember coming home from dance one evening, and deciding that I was going to make a blog, having no clue about how to do it, and with no awareness of how large the blogging community actually is!

2 - Modern Minimalistic or Colourful Clutter
This is so hard! I think I would have to choose modern minimalistic, because I love the styles and the different types of and it goes with so many different things, although I love colour so much, I couldn't live without

3 - What quote inspires you and fires you up?

I love this quote so much, I think that it is really inspirational and motivational, and the typography is really pretty! I have this image printed out and put up on my wire mood board, I really like it!

4 - What do you do as a creative hobby?
I blog, I re-arrange my room, sometimes I try drawing things and using watercolours, like the first image in this post, I go on Pinterest, I sometimes make diys, or I go shopping for inspiration!

5 - If you had 10,000 of your country's currency, what would you do with it?
I would put half of it away to save for things like travelling or developing my blog, and I would spend some; I wouldn't be able to help myself with winter coming up, it is my favourite season, especially fashion wise!!

6 - What colour makes your heart sing?

I know it isn't one colour, but I love the colours in this; it is a free desktop wallpaper from Design Love Fest, and it is currently my wallpaper! I love the blues and pinks and the print is so pretty!

7 - Iced Coffee, or Iced Tea?
Definitely iced tea, I am not a coffee drinker at all, and I don't drink tea too often either, but I'd really like to become a tea person, there are so many cool flavours that you can get!

8 - Dream Job?
I don't know exactly what, but definitely something to do with design, blogging, styling or fashion! I am for sure a creative, and I will carrying on doing things like this for a very long time!

9 - Doughnuts or Ice Cream?
100% ice cream! I am not a doughnut person for some reason, I just don't like them, although you can get very cute looking ones. I love ice cream so much, my favourite flavour is feijoa gelato!

10 - Favourite Blog?
Ahh this is so hard, I can't choose one! I have been following Chloe since the very early days of Avery Huia, but I have met lots of bloggers and found new blogs recently! I love Nabeela's blog (Miss Artsy Crafty), and Chessie's (Freshly Pickked)!

The blogs that I nominate are -

My 10 Questions are -
1 - What do you do to find your inspiration?
2 - What is your favourite season?
3 - If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would you go?
4 - How long have you been blogging?
5 - Sweet or Savoury food?
6 - Favourite quote?
7 - If you had to live without one, which would you choose, Pinterest or Instagram?
8 - Favourite time of the day?
9 - Latest purchase?
10 - One thing you have learnt from blogging?

I'm so glad to have been nominated, this is so exciting and is a really good way to connect with other bloggers and grow your own!

helloooooo!!

I hope everyone is having a lovely week so far! I have recently started school, and as I have a uniform, I have been deprived of the freedom to choose my outfits, so I thought that it called for a fashion post!

Today's post features an all black outfit, and an all white one. I think that they look very sophisticated and I like wearing all of one colour, especially white at the moment while we are in summer!

black
+ top = glassons
+ shorts = brandy melville

I really like this outfit because it looks very sophisticated, and can be dressed up or down. It suits lots of different occasions, like a casual lunch or a fancy party.  I love the sleeves on this top, if you can see in the picture, they are tight until your elbow, and then flow out, and it is so comfortable, but looks so nice! this outfit is really nice, and I would usually wear this out to dinner or at night!

white

+ top = superdry
+ jeans = glassons
+ shoes = adidas originals

ahh i love this outfit so much! it is perfect for summer evening parties, or spring or autumn when it isn't too hot to wear jeans but not too cold to wear a thin straps! i love the all white, it is really fancy and makes the outfit look a lot more sophisticated! I like this as oppose to the black one, as this is lighter and perfect for the daytime!

i hope you enjoyed this post and have a lovely weekend! lots of love, avery huia x

free printable patterns - Avery Huia

Sunday, 7 February 2016

helloooooo!!

I hope everyone in Australia/NZ/anyone else who has gone back to school recently, is having a good time! i am really happy with all of my classes, especially Digital Technology which will help with using html and photoshop, which will come in handy for the blog!

today I have some free printable patterns for you, hence the post title. I have made four different patterns, all A4 & black and white.

you can use these patterns for lots of different things, I used them on my school books on top of brown paper! You could put them on a mood board, frame them, screenshot and use them as a wallpaper (or use these ones), you could also use them as wrapping paper for smaller items, (or bigger if you have an A3 or larger printer).

the image above is how I have styled my books, and I got inspired by the way Chloe has done hers, with the triangles and banners ect. My favourite one is probably the polka dot one with two strips crossing over each other in the bottom right! Just to make sure that the paper doesn't rip, I covered them in clear contact paper, and I also used black paper and white washi tape for the labels!

below is the link to the google drive album with them inside, I really hope you like them, i am super happy with the way that they have turned out!

album - here!

+ please note that these are my own original designs and are for personal use only, and are not available for purchase/to be sold  :)

wishing everyone a great year ahead, love from avery huia x

do more in 2016 - Avery Huia

Sunday, 3 January 2016

helloooo!!

merry christmas and a happy new year everyone! thank you all for such a great year in 2015, and let's bring on this year! today I thought that I would share with you five things that I am going to try and do more of in 2016. these things are mostly off electronics, as I find that i seen lots of time on them when I could be doing these next things!

I hope this gives you some inspiration for the new year, and if you are ever bored or can't decide what to do, here are a few ideas!

+ do more colouring in.
I have two colouring in books, and the one I am currently working on is Sami Sparrow's Emporium of Colour and Delight. I love this one because its designs and patterns are in the middle of the page and there is white space around the image, and I like this better than full page ones. This one also has quotes in a few of the drawings, and you can also tear out pages that you want to give to someone, or frame.

I find colouring in really relaxing and something fun to do in my spare time. I am going to try doing one page a week, and I am quite a busy person, so I am going to try and do the same drawing, but by bit multiple times throughout the week!

+ be creative
I am not very good at art, at all, and this year I was to try and practice my skills, especially with watercolours and typography. I have recently got some equipment that I hope will really help my blog, and come out with beautiful quotes, printables and pictures for you, so get excited for that!

I love being creative, and I find so many inspiring pictures, especially on pinterest, and I want to start making more DIY posts, and doing more designing projects! I am aiming to do at least two creative things a week, like a watercolour painting, or some hand lettering. The images in this post are done by me! I am new to this technique but I hope you like it, you will be seeing a lot more in the near future!

+ save money
this is something I really need to work on. I am doing quite a bit of travelling this year, and I need to save up for some serious shopping! I usually waste my money when I am shopping to buy something that I already want, and some sneaky items that I don't plan end up in my shopping bag!

I am also trying to save money on the little things, and save up for some bigger things on my wishlist, (which is endlessly growing). I am doing this by simply resisting impulse buys, and putting my money away, and thinking about what I am saving for!

I absolutely love reading, but I find it hard to make time for it, and to come across books that I find interesting. I am trying to read more physical books, rather than on the internet too; I get more satisfaction from it.

I am also trying to read more blogs, so if you have one, please comment the address down below!

+ don't be afraid/don't think 'what if'
I am not very good at this and it always takes me a long time to do something that I am scared of like jumping of a wharf or adventurous things like that, and this year I am going to try and do things that I am afraid of doing and going out of my comfort zone!

I did trampolining lessons this year, and I was afraid of learning new tricks incase I got hurt or didn't do it properly, and after talking myself into it, I learnt so many things that I never thought I could do!

I hope this gave you some ideas for resolutions, or things that you can change/do this year! I am going to try really hard to make all of these things work out, and I hope you do too! I hope you al have a great year!

Easy Christmas Baking! - Avery Huia

Tuesday, 22 December 2015

helloooo!

as it is the time for christmas celebrations and parties, i thought that it would be fitting to do a post on some super yummy and easy recipes to share with friends and family or steal all for yourself! these two recipes are super christmassy and delicious!

the first one is white chocolate peppermint bark, and i have never tried this before, but it turned out great and would be a great last minute plate to take to a party!

you will need -
+ white chocolate baking buttons
+ candy canes

first, melt your chocolate in a microwave safe bowl or in a pan on the stove. I used the microwave, and melted the chocolate in lots of 20 seconds, then taking it out to stir, and put back in for another 20 minutes until it was smooth and a liquid consistency. I then put it in a baking tray, with baking paper inside it, and poured and smoothed it in.

you can then unwrap your candy canes, and start to break them up into little pieces, about a few centimetres long. put the little pieces in a plastic zip lock bag and then use something hard like a wooden spoon to crush them up into smaller pieces. once you have them at your preferred size, sprinkle them over the melted chocolate, and put in the fridge for an hour or so, until it is solid.

the next recipe is brownie christmas trees! these are supper yummy and look so cute! these take slightly longer to make than the peppermint bark, but look and taste even more amazing!

you will need -
+ brownie mix & additional wet ingredients (advised on mix packet)
+ candy canes
+ sprinkles
for icing -
+ a tiny bit of butter (on the tip of a spoon)
+ a few drops of water
+ 1 cup of sifted icing sugar
+ green food colouring

firstly, follow and make your brownie with he instructions that come on the packet mix. add the wet ingredients and bake for the suggested time. for the mix that I used, I added two large eggs, and 125g of butter and baked for 28 minutes (for an extra fudgy brownie).

once they are done, leave them to cool on a drying rack, and then cut the pieces into triangles (don't worry if they are uneven).  make the icing by mixing all of the ingredients until you get a wet consistency. then drizzle over the top of the brownies, in whatever shape you like, I did it randomly, but you can do it in a zig zag going down to make it more precise. after that, you can add sprinkles which will acts as baubles or decorations on the tree!

both of these treats are super cute and delicious! they are so easy to make, and would be great for parties! i hope you enjoy making and eating these! merry christmas and a happy new year, love from avery huia x

my new look - avery huia

Sunday, 13 December 2015

helloooo, and surprise!

Incase you haven't noticed, I have a new blog banner, made with help from the lovely Rose, from Logic Design. I have twelve new headers, one new colour for each month! Rose has done such an amazing job, and everything has come out amazingly, and so unique. She also helped me put together some stunning business cards, I love these so much, they are so pretty!

I have also changed my title to 'Avery Huia' instead of 'Avery Huia's Blog', I thought it was a little more straightforward and less of a mouthful! My address, email and social media accounts will still remain averyhuiasblog though.

below is an image of January's header which is transparent, for a fresh new start!

here are the images of my business card,
                                 front                                                                         back

The process was fun & easy from my point of view, but it took it's time, and Rose worked really hard to make it perfect! We started by sharing the ideas in my head with Rose, and making a moodboard of colours, fonts and inspiration. After that, Rose had created a initial look, and I then found things that I liked and wanted to keep, and then things that I wanted to change, and she kept adjusting them until we had the final products!

The whole thing started in August, and is now finished, so it took a total of four months. I would highly recommend Rose, she did such a great job, and the images that I had in my head came out into the final product exactly, without us two talking, only emailing back and forth!

I hope you enjoy seeing what colours are for each months! I have tried to put the colours to months as the seasons are, so light and bright from summery, and slightly darker toned ones for winter! I have green for December, as it is a Christmas colour, and very summery!

lots of love, from avery huia x

LUSH Christmas! - Avery Huia

Saturday, 28 November 2015

hellooo!

sorry about the late post - my computer has stopped working so it has been a very slow week!

today I have another Christmas post, that I couldn't resist for much longer! If any of you are lushies, Lush's christmas range is a big deal, and very exciting! I am in love with all of these products, and I hope that you find some products that you will too! these items would also be great for christmas gifts for friends!

I have chosen 8 items that I love from the range, and they are all so different, but smell so good!

picture a -                                                                picture b -
(left to right, top to bottom)
a - bath bombs
I have pictured above Intergalactic, which is only available in the Oxford St store in London, Yog Nog, Golden Wonder and Dashing Santa.

+ intergalactic
this is a very minty smelling bomb, and it is mainly blue but has colours too. this is covered in glitter and is quite big, and I can't wait to use this. I have seen tons of videos of this, and it looks so good! it is only available in gift packages in stores other than Oxford.

+ yog nog
this is a really interesting smelling bomb, but it has grown on me, and I quite like it! it is white and a creamish yellowy colour and it looks very pretty

+ golden wonder
I have tried this before and it is amazing! it is in the shape of a present with a bow, and it such a pretty bath and little stars float at the end! it smells amazing aswell!

+ dashing santa
I haven't tried this before, but it is really cute, and is shaped like a little santa dashing around with his presents. It smells very citrusy and is a red colour.

b - miscellaneous

+ santa's belly shower jelly
I love the Sweetie Pie shower jelly, and it is hard to top, but I think this might have done it! It is described as smelling like wine and red apples, and has little stars in the bottom. it acts as a semi solid shower jelly, and does exactly what that does, and you can re use it!

+ yog nog soap
this is the same scent as the bath bomb, but in a soap. it is the same as your usual soap, but is very melt-y, so I imagine that it would be very moisturising.

+ candy mountain bubble bar
with this, you run it under the bath, and you can re use it by crumbling it, or use the whole thing to create mountains of bubbles! this smells really sweet, and is very sparkly and makes my baths amazing!

+ salt and peppermint bark
this is a scrub, and you rub it onto your body in the shower, and it is harsh, but after it is washed off, is super softening! I love this so much, and I think that it is my favourite out of the 8!

I love these products, and they have definitely contributed to me getting into the christmas spirit! they all smell so good, and there is a scent for everyone at Lush!

lots of love, avery huia

Christmas Room Decor - Avery Huia

Thursday, 19 November 2015

helloooo!

for todays post, I thought that I would do Christmas room decor! I have 3 things that you can buy, and 2 things that you can make. I am so excited for Christmas and I have used all of these to make my room super festive!

I got this silver bell star wreath, and I thought it looked so cute and added a simple festive touch, but it could also be used all year round. I got this from Kmart, and it was super cheap!

I added some candy canes in a mason jar, and they add a touch of red to my room, but they are super hard to resist! You can get these anywhere, and there are some super cute DIYs with candy canes, like a heart shaped wreath!

Also at Kmart, I found this super cute pillow with a gold reindeer on it! This adds a festive touch, and a pop of gold too! It is also reversible, and on the other side it has gold, sliver and black triangles!

for this DIY, we will be making some christmas tree ornaments, out of sticks! You will need -
- sticks of any shape and size
- hot glue gun
- thin ribbon/wire
- strong scissors
First, start cutting up you sticks so that they form a Christmas Tree sort of shape, and trim them to the size that you want. You could make a wall hanging out of this, or do what I did and just make little ornaments to hang on the tree, though I hung these in my room. Once you have your desired shape, glue away! Then cut a piece of string or wire on to the back in a loop shape to hook it onto things. Now you have a super cute and festive decoration for your room!

For this bunting DIY, you will need
- big letter stickers
- red and green card paper
- ribbon/string
- ruler and scissors, pen and sellotape

First, measure out the size of bunting that you want, I did mine roughly 8cm across and down, but put a further 2cm down for the point at the bottom. Do this in repeating colours (red & green) until you have enough for your chosen word (mine was joy). After that, stick the letters on, and tape the letters to the string! Then you can hang it up in your room or around your house to get you in the mood for Christmas! Here is a closer shot of the final look!

I hope you enjoyed this and got some ideas on how to festive-ify your room for the holidays! I can't wait for the rest of my Christmas Series, I have some super exciting posts planned!
